I've been taking classes with Yuri sensei for a couple months and she's been just wonderful. From the beginning we established my goals and how to get there and she adjusted our lessons accordingly.
She takes a lot of care into putting together lessons with text, pictures and videos. She’s really good at explaining concepts and we go over example scenarios to help understand things instead of just memorizing.
I appreciate that she sprinkles in Japanese words and phrases while speaking during lessons instead of doing the whole class in English, I find that it helps with my listening and understanding skills, between that and her kind and friendly demeanor it really makes one feel comfortable with participating, making mistakes and asking questions.
We always have a short chat at the beginning of class and it's really rewarding when you can see your progress in listening and speaking and can get her feedback as you conversate.
Yuri sensei also hands out small homework assignments to learn vocabulary and practice reading Kana outside of classes but then we come back to it in future lessons to practice it.
She is extremely professional, has never been late once or had to interrupt a class, but at the same time she has a very energetic and positive attitude so classes are always fun and engaging.
Her rates are very reasonable considering the quality of her lessons and I would recommend her to anyone who is looking to learn Japanese either in a casual/no pressure way like myself, or someone looking to learn for the purpose of work or passing exams. Yuri sensei is not only an amazing teacher but also a delightful person, I'm extremely happy to have started classes with her and hope to continue doing so for the foreseeable future.
