About Giacomo
I have a II level AFAM diploma in Jazz Clarinet at the Claudio Abbado Civic School of Milan, with a thesis on Afro-Cuban music, and I professionally play baritone and alto sax.
I carry out my work in a passionate and pragmatic way, choosing with my students achievable objectives to work towards together. In addition to aiming for quantifiable goals, such as passing exams or competitions, the result that excites me most is transmitting discipline to daily study and stimulating curiosity and self-education.
In the last six years I have followed the individual preparation of more than forty students, from 12 to 65 years old, helping in two cases to successfully prepare for the entrance exam to the first level academic diploma course at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan and Como. Since 2020 I have been part of the teaching staff of the International Music School of Milan and in 2023-2024 I managed the "Talenti in Gioco" project with the Musica XXI Association, a musical laboratory aimed at third grade students of Istituto Comprensivo Statale "Via Val Lagarina" in Milan.
Since 2024 I have continued my business privately in Bologna, you can reach me at my studio in Porta Mascarella.

Specifically I deal with:
Emission, using different approaches for long notes, subtones and overtones, aimed at developing greater awareness of airflow management and note intonation, to shape a recognizable and satisfying timbre.
Jazz embouchure, with exercises such as vibrato or staccato to correct it and simultaneously train the emission speed.
Technical study of the fundamentals of the instrument to achieve maximum expressive freedom.
Improvisation repertoire and techniques.
The mnemonic construction of a repertoire is the central aspect of my teaching: starting from listening and discerning what we momentarily like or not, we will work on the technical and theoretical bases to be able to learn, replicate and memorize the harmonic and thematic structure , or simply a musical phrase from a song that caught our attention.
The repertoire of standards that we will build over time will be the training ground in which to exercise our solo language, through the study of scale/chord relationships, the articulation of notes in various styles, the invention and variations of short melodic cells, rhythmic decompositions and harmonic substitutions.
Sax section reading from known arrangements or compositions written specifically for each need.
Drum rudiments to improve rhythmic consistency.
