About Lily May

Hi! Last year I graduated with a Class 1 Degree in English Literature from the University of Exeter. My knowledge of the subject and experience in tutoring means I have a vast knowledge of what is required at GCSE and A Level - I also studied Higher English at IB level. In my spare time I love to dance, cook and (of course!) read.
As well as helping you comprehend literature, having a good level of skill in English will improve your writing and understanding in other subjects and also enhance your job and university applications. I have a proven track record of helping students boost their grades in a short amount of time. One of my biggest success stories is helping an EAL GCSE student improve from a level 2 to a level 5 over the course of 6 weeks.
Learning isn’t all about grades, though, and my focus is for you to enjoy my lessons while you improve. I want to create the most positive and inspiring learning environment I can so that you do not miss out on achieving your best.

About the lesson

My tutor sessions are designed to not only help improve your grades but to also increase your confidence. You have the potential to achieve; nothing is too hard to master when you have a good work ethic and access to great teaching. The beauty of tutoring is that the session is solely yours; in a one-to-one space, we can work together to identify which topics you struggle with and also how you can learn most effectively.
That time spent in my tutor sessions is structured to be used efficiently, whilst also being a light-hearted and enjoyable place to learn. Personally, I learn best when I am interested in a subject, therefore I want to make sure that you enjoy my teaching and our discussions interest you.
In my own lessons at school, I learned the most through critiquing example answers. This is a great way to see exactly what needs to be done to construct a perfect answer. I incorporate modeling answers within my tutoring and when I have broken down the process into manageable steps, you can see how easy it can be to write a brilliant piece of writing.
Hopefully my sessions are successful in improving your grades, and maybe I can even inspire you to love English, like I do!
