• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My interest in tutoring English and essay writing began after my GCSEs, where I developed strong essay-writing skills that helped me excel academically.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I prefer teaching English and Sociology as both subjects require abstract thinking, allowing students to think outside the box and develop unique perspectives.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Although I didn’t have a specific role model, English has always been a part of my personal life through my love for reading. I still use these skills in my current degree.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  I push students beyond standard thinking while patiently helping them develop their writing and analytical skills.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  English was my favourite subject at school as it improved my writing skills for my other humanities subjects while also strengthening my analytical thinking and reading comprehension, which are useful even in STEM subjects.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Many students struggle with memorising quotations/writing techniques, but I developed revision methods to help with this. I teach my students the same techniques in my sessions.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I’m passionate about literature and social issues, which are essential for teaching English and Sociology. However, I also believe that all students benefit from extra tuition in English - these skills are already within them and simply need to be nurtured.

• What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

  I tailor my sessions to every student’s needs. While I have a structured approach, I remain flexible. I provide live feedback and draw on historical and social contexts to help students analyse literature more effectively.
