About Lucy
I’ve been tutoring GCSE sciences at school for 2 years and holding maths challenge and help groups for a couple of years. I achieved ten level 9s and one 8 at GCSE and A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics at A-level. I’m achieving an average of 90% in my second year maths degree courses at Edinburgh University. I always look forward to spending time with my tutees because we have fun, games and wacky analogies always help with confidence and remembering difficult concepts or formulae.

I base my classes on the individual needs of the child and interweave key concepts and groundwork into topic specific lessons, regularly recapping to consolidate. I believe active recall and problem solving as well as practice questions are the best way to understand and remember scientific information and mathematical formulae and constructs. I look to really challenge the student to interact and answer a question to the best of their ability first and then to be corrected and learn from mistakes.

Lucy's happy and patient personality, coupled with her clear communication and past tutoring experience, enables her to create a relaxed and productive learning environment, in which she gives just the right hints and breaks complex concepts down brilliantly. What stood out for me is how Lucy can approach problems from many different angles, moulding her explanations to fit each tutee. Her passion for the subject is contagious and I couldn't recommend her as a tutor more.
