About Thomas
I’m a second year Undergraduate studying Maths and Computer Science at the University of Oxford, I’ve tutored 5 students online over the past year, I’ve also ran drop in support sessions during my time at college for A-Level Maths students and I’ve helped out in GCSE Maths classes.

My general teaching method is to firstly identify areas of weakness and come up with a plan based on the number lessons so that we can spend our time most efficiently. Then in a typical lesson, I will start off with recap questions from previous lessons, move into teaching a topic by showing the student what they need to know and trying to explain it so they understand it intuitively and then I move onto working through a few examples with the student. I start with easier examples and provide lots of support and slowly let them answer more on their own and work on harder questions until I’m confident they understand everything properly, and that they’re able to solve all types of questions on the related topic. Once the student is ready, we’ll move on. I think it’s important to constantly ask the student how they’re finding the subject and ask if they have questions and I always reassure my students that making mistakes is perfectly fine and it’s the only way to learn.
