About Lucy
With a BM in Sacred Music (Piano/Organ) and 6 years of experience, I bring a thoughtful and musical approach to teaching piano. I specialise in ragtime, stride, and early jazz, styles that bring energy and history into each lesson. These genres help students understand rhythm and melody in a deeper way. I enjoy teaching school-aged learners who are discovering piano. I also support adults who want to explore authentic historical techniques. My lessons combine technique, listening, and hands-on practice. I explain musical concepts in clear and simple terms. I offer steady encouragement and helpful feedback. Each student sets goals, and we work towards them with patience. I believe early American piano styles offer a unique path to musical expression. My teaching approach focuses on developing original music on the piano. I guide students through songwriting, composing melodies, and crafting harmonies. Lessons emphasise building intros, outros, and musical themes that connect naturally. I combine creative exploration with structured techniques. I work closely with The Therapy Seeker and The Jazz Pianist to support their composition goals. Students learn chord progressions, phrasing, and how to organise musical ideas. Feedback is clear, supportive, and practical. I include exercises in improvisation and thematic development. Lessons are designed to grow both skill and creativity. Students learn to turn inspiration into fully realised pieces. I help them structure compositions while encouraging expressive freedom. Each session focuses on building confidence and musical understanding. Together, we’ll compose piano music that represents your voice. You’ll gain tools to craft your own musical legacy.
