About Tom
I am a AHRC-funded PhD student at the University of Glasgow studying Information Studies. My research focus is on archive and museum, with a particular interest in conflict. I am also a Graduate Teaching Assistant and have tutored at an undergraduate and postgraduate level, having also been a freelance tutor on and off for 3+ years. Having struggled through academics and failed several times to achieve my goal of pursuing a PhD, I am keenly aware of the lack of resources and expertise available to some aspiring students. I am therefore motivated to provide an accessible form of guidance that is able to supplement a student's ongoing education at university or to assist in them attaining a place at a university.

I specialise in offering one-on-one academic support for students pursuing their BA and MA studies, I also offer academic application guidance for those seeking to apply to a postgraduate programme. My support echoes the services offered by universities and their graduate teaching assistants. Providing assistance with essay writing, seminar reading guidance and dissertation planning. I can provide proofreading but the focus of my tutoring is on the content of essays, helping to structure them, formulate coherent arguments and assisting the student to become confident with their material. This includes assisting students to identify the best university and university courses for them, assisting in writing motivation letters, and helping to edit and proofread writing samples. I am also able to offer guidance for those that wish to pursue scholarships at any degree level and can, similarly, assist in the identification of potential sources of funding and guide individuals through the rather complicated scholarship application process, particularly at a postgraduate level.

Tom was fantastic! He made my university hunt very straight and helped me with the application process. I am not from the UK so I wasn't very confident with what I needed to do but Tom made it all simple and manageable
Tom was super helpful when it came to guiding me through British university applications. As an international student it can be quite difficult to gauge the standards and expectations of each university and Tom’s assistance to produce cover letters really helped calm my nerves. He was also very happy to discuss universities and courses, as well as my future PhD plans. I fully intend to get his help when I start applying again.
