About Fotini
I’m Fotini, a native Greek speaker with a lifelong relationship with language, literature and the humanities.
I studied Byzantine and Modern Greek Language and Literature at the University of Cyprus, with studies extending across Ancient, Byzantine and Modern Greek, Latin, literature, history, philosophy and drama.
Over the years, my professional life has taken me through education, journalism and editing in Cyprus and Australia. I’ve taught children and adults and worked with language in very different settings.
What I enjoy most about teaching is going beyond the answer itself — exploring why language works the way it does, how it developed, and the connections between language, history and culture.
I’m also currently studying Law, continuing what has probably always been a habit of mine: learning, questioning, interpreting and looking at things from more than one angle.

I don’t teach Ancient Greek as a collection of forms and rules to memorize. I want you to understand how the language works — why a form appears, how a sentence is constructed, where meanings come from, and how Greek developed across different periods.
Lessons can focus on Ancient or Byzantine Greek, including grammar, syntax, vocabulary, translation and text analysis. Where useful, we can also trace the connections between Ancient, Byzantine and Modern Greek and see how the language developed over time.
We start with your level and your purpose. You may be studying Ancient Greek at school or university, preparing for an exam, working through a particular text, or learning simply because the language and its history fascinate you.
For Byzantine Greek, you may be studying theology, reading ecclesiastical or historical texts, wanting to better understand the language of the Greek Orthodox Church, or exploring the Byzantine period for academic or personal interest.
I studied Byzantine and Modern Greek Language and Literature at the University of Cyprus, with studies spanning Ancient, Byzantine and Modern Greek, literature, history and related humanities.
Lessons are adapted to the individual student rather than following a fixed script, and are available for secondary and university students as well as adult independent learners.
