About Michelle
I am a teacher, but I was not always the best student. It was not that I didn't try or put in the time. I simply didn't know the best way to learn. I didn't realize that learning is a strategy to figure out what you know and what you DO NOT know. One of the reasons I became a teacher was more than the fact that I loved being around students. I knew that teaching students how to be successful at learning was just as important as being successful in science, math or reading. Improvement means growth and growth comes from being challenged. I can help students to meet challenges, build resilience and gain confidence by teaching the strategies needed to know HOW to learn.

Reading is more than just a skill; it's a gateway to knowledge, imagination, and success in various aspects of life. Whether you're a struggling reader or aiming to excel, individualized tutoring can make a remarkable difference. As a teacher with over 20 years of experience, my track record of student growth and success is fuel for me. My personalized approach is tailored to match your learning style, pace and needs. I have a proven expertise in designing and implementing evidence-based instructional materials to advance learning and development. While I have spent many years in elementary and middle grades, my career as a reading intervention specialist in grades four through eight provided a fulfilling challenge. Identifying specific student needs through assessment and progress monitoring to meet those needs is the key to growth.
A typical lesson plan for reading intervention aims to provide targeted support and instruction to students who are struggling with their reading skills. Each lesson is designed to address the specific needs of each student and help them improve their reading abilities. My lesson plan model for middle school reading intervention includes;
**Warm-up (5-10 minutes)- Review any previously learned concepts or skills that are relevant to the current lesson. Introduction (5 minutes)-Explain the objective and why the skill or concept being taught is important for improving reading abilities.
**Direct Instruction (15-20 minutes)-Introduce the target skill or concept (e.g., decoding a specific phonics pattern, using context clues to understand unfamiliar words). Explicit instruction is provided including modeling and guided practice on how to apply the skill.
**Guided Practice (10-15 minutes): Engage students in interactive activities that allow them to practice the target skill with your guidance. Use phonics flashcards, word games, or reading passages that include the skill you're teaching. **Independent Practice (10 minutes): Students will work individually or in small-group activities to reinforce the skill.
**Assessment (5-10 minutes): The final step is evaluating student understanding and progress through informal methods such as questioning, observation, or quick assessments.
**Closure (5 minutes): Summarize the key points of the lesson. Provide students with the opportunity to ask questions or share their thoughts.
