About Harshel
I'm Harshel, a recent graduate of the 2025 North Sydney Boys High School cohort which broke the all-time HSC records for both the highest Band 6 rate recorded at North Sydney Boys as well as the highest Band 6 rate ever recorded excluding accelerants. After transferring from another selective school in Year 11, I started Year 12 after a year of below-average marks and a predicted ATAR below 99, and was forced to choose between sticking to my ineffective methods or redeveloping my system to focus on a deep curiosity and understanding of every single concept in my HSC subjects. I believe that the decision to uproot every study habit I had formed thus far remains one of the best choices of my life today, culminating in an efficient and highly effective philosophy to learning which allowed me to balance two sports, volunteering and school clubs with strong academic results. I aim to imbue all of my students with this same philosophy to learning centered around efficiency and conceptual curiosity. As such, my role with students will extend past that of a traditional tutor and further mentor them on healthy study habits, extracurriculars and how to form a targeted application to any type of university or program they may wish to enter. Part of this mentorship process involves individual sessions I offer to students in which applications to medical programs or overseas universities can be edited and critiqued. My knowledge of the interview process has gained me invitations to six different medicine and dentistry interviews. As part of my traditional role as a tutor, I am able to apply my deep knowledge of the HSC syllabus for Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics Extension 1 and 2 as well as English Advanced, to use a student engagement focused model which has historically yielded strong results in both classrooms and tutoring alike. This involves my core principle of asking the student more questions than they ask me, allowing me to deeply gauge the knowledge gaps which any individual student may possess and target them precisely. Some of my academic credentials from high school which display my deep conceptual knowledge include: - 99/96 HSC Mathematics Extension 1 - 98/98 HSC Mathematics Extension 2 - 94/92 HSC Chemistry - 93/92 HSC English Advanced - 93/91 HSC Physics Where the format (X/Y) denotes the examination mark, then the assessment mark I achieved respectively. I also achieved trials ranks in the top 20 at North Sydney Boys for Mathematics Extension 1, 2 and Chemistry, excelling in some of the hardest exams the school has ever produced. These marks earned me a final ATAR in NSW of 99.70, a stark contrast from where I began in Year 11. Therefore, my journey from a disorganized student to an organized tutor with a proven system allows me to relate with any student regardless of their goals and where they are in their academic journey, and therefore enables me to add value consistently to students of all levels of academic ability. Thank you very much for taking the time to read through my story. I very much look forward to speaking with you soon!

My lessons are taught in an unorthodox way which involves a strong interactive philosophy in which my students are asked to explain the concepts learned for all subjects in order to test their fundamental understanding. Through this philosophy, I have been able to allow students to conceptually learn and apply their holistic knowledge of subject areas to exams as well as change my own perspective of what studying should be like - interesting and engaging. Each lesson ranges from 1.5-2 hours depending on the year group of the student, and typically will cover 1-2 dot points under each syllabus topic. I teach years 7-12 inclusive and have a large bank of selective school tested resources available at no extra cost to my students in years 11 and 12. As a tutor, I have previously led peer mentoring as part of my school's programs, as well as have taken on the role of a Falcon Mentor for a year 7 student in teaching them study habits as well as academic content. I have also taught in a Cadets environment on a weekly lesson, preparing and planning lessons and have privately tutored junior high school students prior to my HSC. Therefore, I understand exactly how to adapt to the needs of each student and am well equipped to help them achieve their idea of success.
