We got to know Andrew from a family friend's recommendation to tutor our year 5 son. With Andrew's coaching Jay is studying year 8 maths, perfect for his engineering aspirations, not only that in a matter of one term!

My name is Chris, I was fortunate to engage with Andrew Chavez of Specialist Maths Education in mid-2023 to support me in my potential quest to attend University as a mature student (54 years of age).

Initially I was trying to assess whether attending University would be possible, and if I had the capacity to undertake a STEM degree at University level education with a year 11 high school education.

Andrew and I had several meetings, during which he assessed my commitment and capacity to learn, as well as develop an understanding of the needs for the potential bachelor degree’s that I would be interested in studying.

A plan was developed which involved me commencing year 10 equivalent lessons, working my way through year 11 and 12 across a 7-month period.

With Andrew’s guidance and tuition, I was able to progress quickly and secure a place at University earlier than expected as I completed the preparation plan a week prior to semester 1 in 2024.

The foundation knowledge and development of a capacity to learn was invaluable – I have successfully completed semester 1 in my undergraduate degree (all subjects with high distinctions) and I look forward to enjoying my studies over the next 3-4 years.

Andrew’s support, advice, encouragement and detailed knowledge of both school and higher education curricula were decisive in my very fast academic progress and success, well beyond initial expectations, and I highly recommend him as a maths education specialist.

This review is to commend the work of Andrew, who was my methods tutor in 2019. Thanks to his expert, dedicated guidance I reached my goal and finished Mathematical Methods on an A, and in regards to my ATAR got a score of 99.35, which granted me admissions for all of my preferences which included University of Adelaide and UNSW, as well as a substantial Defence University Sponsorship! I was very happy with my achievements, which were to an important degree thanks to him. Andrew very successfully tutored my year 2 daughter in maths that was over two years ahead of the curriculum. My daughter was able to complete exercises in long multiplication and division, fractions, percentages, algebra, equations that was comparable to years 4 and 5 maths level. Andrew also impressed us with his professionalism and was always very approachable and easy to communicate with. He provided us with regular updates of her progress and plenty of weekly homework. To whom it may concern: Andrew was recommended to me by a friend who was his long term student and who had improved a lot in HL Math so I decided to get his help with this subject as well. We did a full revision and prepared also for the topic paper which was in Statistics. Andrew helped me clarify some concepts and types of exercises which fortunately came in the finals! He has very thorough knowledge of what is tested and his explanations are always so clear that I had the impression I could do much more right after every lesson. I managed to finish with a 6, ATAR of 96 and got unconditional admissions from UNSW, ANU and finally the University of Sydney which also gave me a scholarship. I have since recommend Andrew to other friends, his level of support and experience, and the confidence he brought to my preparation were top notch.

I hired Andrew to help me improve my marks in math methods and specialist. I was getting Bs mostly and some Cs and needed to improve to As within less than two terms before the finals. With Andrew we moved quickly to the harder exercises and did many problems above topic, this helped me be much more confident I could really ace my tests, which happened in the same term! He also helped me so much understand the requirements of the assignments with all the their details and I got As in both too. I finished with A+ in methods and A- in specialist and got admitted to my first degree choices in two excellent universities (Sydney and Melbourne). The things that helped me so much with Andrew were his work with higher level material and his very accurate and clear explanations, he is also very encouraging and approachable, unless some school teachers. Andrew's skills and personal approach to tuition are exceptional and I recommend him very much!

I started tuition with Andrew in term 1 last year. My grades were suffering and my tests couldn't go above 30. It was a desperate situation. Before finishing term 2 I managed to improve to mid to upper seventies and then continued improving the rest of the year. My improvement was of over 50% for the year. I consider Andrew exceptional because the way he explained those concepts making them so easy to understand, and the expectation and trust in my capabilities. Now I'm fully confident I can go through year 12 and uni with success.

Hi Andrew, thank you so much for your support throughout 2019! As mentioned on my email I went from failing my initial math tests last year to improving over 50% in only one term!! This helped me receive my first preference for University, which was a Bachelor course for Social Work at the University of NSW! Thanks to Andrew I managed to get As in math methods and specialist. I am now in my second year of engineering at the University of Adelaide and his teachings have been invaluable. Andrew clears up all concepts to you, helps you be more confident lesson by lesson, and always has your objectives and needs in mind. He is super reliable and knowledgeable, always punctual and able to solve and explain even the hardest problems, those that no one else could help me with. I was also very impressed by his attention to detail, he tells you everything you need to know to improve, not only about the subjects but also study and time management habits. I feel very fortunate for all his help and recommend him without any reservations.

Andrew was my Maths tutor for nearly 2 years. He helped me a lot in Stage 1 and 2 Maths Methods, and especially Specialist Maths. I found Maths became very easy after he taught me different maths skills, problem solving skils, exam skills and different maths concepts. With Andrew's guidance and support I managed to obtain an ATAR of 99.65 and the National Merit scholarship at the University of Melbourne; I was also invited to attend the SACE Merit Ceremony on the 5th of February 2019.

Andrew is a very reliable and patient tutor, he can solve every hard maths problem for me and takes time to explain them. He assisted me a lot in my maths folios by suggesting a great deal of useful and interesting ideas and teaching me how to explain them well. Andrew is a very important role in my Maths study in high school. Before we started lessons I already had average Maths marks of about 90%, Andrew encouraged me to aim for excellence and made the concepts easier, more clear, bringing my averages to over 95%. My final SACE scores were ideal with Andrew's help because I got A plus and A for my two maths subjects.

We used Andrew to help our year 4 son gain confidence in maths after a particularly difficult year. Casey's teacher was not the approachable type and Casey just buried himself at the back of the maths class hoping he wouldn't get asked a question. His tests all came back with very poor results and "see me", but there seemed to be no following up and no time to explain the maths to him on a one on one basis. By the end of the year, he was convinced he was hopeless at maths and would never understand it. So we embarked on "getting a tutor" for Casey, during the summer holidays, so that he'd feel more positive about maths at the start of year 5.

After his first lesson with Andrew, Casey showed more positivity and after six or seven lessons started talking about "getting an A in maths". He was always keen to go to his lesson (unlike Kumon, which I'd tried the year prior) and he showed a concentration level I never dreamed of. Each lesson was an hour and a half, on Andrew's recommendation, and I could scarcely believe that Casey remained focused and attentive throughout the whole session. Every time.

Of course getting him to do the worksheets for homework was a little harder but nonetheless Andrew had made enough of an impression that Casey didn't want to disappoint him. So he worked quite hard at home to make progress on the sheets that Andrew emailed to me, regularly and without fail - and with answers!

Furthermore, Andrew was always prompt, never let us down with attendance, and was always readily available on his mobile or via email. I received updates on Casey's progress and felt that Andrew was as personally invested in Casey's education as we were.

Upon Casey's return to school he was already crowing about his maths prowess compared to his classmates. He could tell the time confidently (at last!) and know his times tables well. He could solve equations, work with fractions and explain "the power of". In short, I can recommend Andrew very highly as he is a specialised maths tutor, which is not easy to find, and he turned Casey round from hating maths to being the student who helps the kid next to him.

Andrew provided me with a comprehensive, meticulous service unmatched in rigour and detail with a high degree of specialization for my individual needs (Stage 2 Math Methods). My experience with him yielded very rewarding results, increasing my grades significantly on short notice. Of particular note, Andrew excelled in his detailed explanation of concepts, practical techniques and a unique motivation to succeed.
Andrew instilled a deeper foundational understanding of concepts that were often only given surface level explanations in class. I was able to understand these concepts in a more holistic way, due to his patient and effective explanations. Additionally his demeanour was always encouraging and helpful, while insisting I gained full mastery of a concept before moving on, and then later following up on my retention of these concepts. Andrew's approach is informed, systematic and effective, while remaining warm and unintimidating.
In addition to helping me understand the most complicated concepts, Andrew provided me with a host of tips, habits and tricks to succeed in study, class and under exam circumstances. Andrew applied the same systematic, easy-to-follow approach as with presenting math concepts in how to be effective in all other aspects of the course, providing indeed a tutoring service that is truly comprehensive and leaves no stone unturned. It is no use understanding the concepts if you buckle under exam pressure or study time is not optimised. Andrew’s advice allowed me to face exam stress and anxiety and remain focused during my final Stage 2 exams while managing my time effectively. These lessons have been invaluable and have retained their relevance and applicability in my current university studies.
In addition to developing a greater mathematical understanding and assisting in exams and study, Andrew provided me with a unique motivation I have not found with any other tutor, and very few teachers. When working with Andrew, he inspired me to achieve my absolute best academic performance. While I was often indifferent towards my math teachers at school, when working with Andrew I was motivated to succeed, simply due to the faith and respect he put in me.
Andrew's tutoring service is unique in its almost scientific efficiency and depth, not only covering course material but providing wide-ranging avenues to success not taught in the classroom while remaining extremely engaging. Update: Robbie is finishing high school this year and is now a straight A Math Methods student (with one perfect and another nearly perfect mark in his tests!). All what I can say is thank you Andrew for your exceptional work with my son this year. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical in the beginning, as he had never been happy doing Math, let alone get good grades in this subject in his first 8 school years. In a matter of a few lessons, Andrew helped Robbie be convinced that Math could be understood and enjoyed, and finally mastered. Andrew has helped him increase his marks from nearly failing to 80%s and 90%s in two terms, his confidence is also much, much better than before. I couldn't believe Robbie was doing Andrew's homework by himself from the first lesson!! We are all very happy at home with this outcome.

Andrew is very patient, it is also evident he has a great deal of experience, and he does his best to make Math as easy and pleasant as possible. My most sincere recommendation of Andrew's tutoring services to all parents and students.
