About Akuba
About my teaching style:
I apply a ‘hybrid’ style as it incorporates
personality, preferences and interests into my teaching
It means tailoring my tutoring for different students, & using
using extra-curricular knowledge to develop a deeper grasp.
It relies on group work, facilitation & demonstration.
What I love most about teaching/tutoring:
I love teaching & tutoring because it is of its transformative
Influence and ability to shape young people’s lives. Students
remember good teachers more than bad ones. I like the fact that teaching enables me to help young people to set targets and goals and help them achieve their personal bests and to be a constant safe presence in their schooling/educational lives.

I engage students by doing
• Starter activities
Reading activities
• Making reading engaging [fun?!] and using talk
Writing activities
• Generating ideas and developing them beyond the basic
Lessons last an hour & with the aid of discussion, ice-breaker games, and worksheets.
I have a degree in Sociology, Master's in Social Anthropology & Certificate in Education. I've been teaching sociology, media studies from GCSE, A Level & degree level (1988-2003) & all forms of English up to GCSE (the latter with TalenEd from 2016 to 2023.
