About Enrique
I’m an award-winning historian, educator, and former NPR producer with a Ph.D. in Latin American History from UCLA. For over a decade, I’ve taught U.S. and global history to middle school, high school, and university students—but I don’t just teach history; I bring it to life. My approach merges rigorous academic scholarship with creative storytelling (think podcasts, documentaries, and radio projects!) to transform complex themes into relatable, dynamic lessons. Whether you’re preparing for AP exams, building critical analysis skills, or exploring how history shapes today’s world, I’ll empower you to think deeper and connect the dots like never before.

Unlock the power of the past with a truly unique learning experience! I'm an award-winning educator and historian with a Ph.D. in Latin American History from UCLA and over 10 years of experience teaching U.S. and Global History to middle school, high school, and university students.
Beyond the Textbook: My approach goes beyond rote memorization. Leveraging my background as a producer for NPR and the BBC, I specialize in making history vibrant, relevant, and engaging through:
Project-Based Learning: Design radio commentaries, documentaries, or podcasts exploring historical themes (like I did at the Latin American Youth Center!).
Multimedia Storytelling: Analyze history through primary sources, films, archival documents, and contemporary media – the same tools I use in professional production.
Critical Thinking Development: Foster deep analysis of historical events, their causes, consequences, and connections to today's world through debates and student-led inquiry.
Student-Centered & Inclusive: Lessons are tailored to your goals, learning style, and background. I'm committed to creating an equitable and supportive space for all learners, drawing on extensive experience with diverse and underserved communities.
Why Choose Me?
Academic Rigor Meets Creative Communication: My PhD ensures deep expertise, while my NPR/BBC experience means I excel at translating complex historical concepts into clear, compelling narratives.
Proven Engagement: Successfully designed and taught innovative, globally-focused curricula at UCLA, UMD, and for at-risk youth, consistently boosting student engagement and critical understanding.
Real-World Relevance: Learn not just what happened, but why it matters today, connecting historical patterns to current events and your own experiences.
Flexible & Supportive: Whether you need help mastering APUSH content, developing research skills, improving analytical writing, or simply discovering a passion for history, I adapt to your needs.
I specialize in tutoring:
U.S. History (All levels, including AP)
Global History / World History
