About Coastal
With fifteen (15) years in the classroom, I have navigated countless shifts in methodology, from traditional to modern teaching.
When I began teaching in 1998 at SUNY Buffalo's tudent exchange program, I was pursing my degree in English Education. I worked part-time teaching English as a Second Language and discovered it's my "vocation".
Viewing teaching English and other languages as a vocation means seeing it as a deep calling to guide, connect with, and empower learners through language. It transforms a daily job into a meaningful mission of cultural exchange and human connection.

To make learners multi-language speakers, I build an immersive, supportive environment that uses their home languages as a foundation, encourages active daily conversation, and applies practical scaffolding.
Teaching foreign languages to adults requires a shift from rote memorization to active, goal-oriented strategies. The most effective core methodologies include Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Task-Based Learning (TBL), and prioritizing Comprehensible Input to build real-world fluency and confidence.
I am highly experienced in tailoring my approach to meet diverse student needs, from boosting foundational reading skills in young learners to guiding high schoolers through complex essay composition.
