About Elizabeth
I have been teaching violin for over 6 years, and I enjoy showing students that the violin can be used in many exciting and modern ways. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Composition with a Violin Focus. My lessons combine strong technical skills with creativity and performance.
I enjoy exploring crossover styles such as Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop Strings, and World Music with my students. I use improvisation, looping pedals, and live performance effects to create exciting musical experiences. One student began by learning simple melodies and later performed a complete layered violin piece using a looping pedal at a local event.
I guide students in writing their own solos, adapting popular songs for violin, and experimenting with different tones and textures. Every lesson encourages original ideas while building confidence and practical performance skills. I believe students learn best when they create music that reflects their own personality.
The violin offers endless opportunities for creativity and self-expression. I would love to help you explore new sounds, modern performance techniques, and fresh musical ideas. My teaching approach encourages creativity while helping students build strong violin skills. I welcome beginners, intermediate learners, and experienced players who want to explore music beyond classical traditions. Every lesson is planned around your goals and musical interests.
We work on improvisation in jazz, folk, and world music while learning how to create melodies over chord changes. I also teach ear training, rhythm development, scales, phrasing, bow control, tone production, music theory, harmony, and expressive performance. These skills help students feel comfortable creating music without depending only on written notes.
For example, I often play a simple chord progression and encourage students to create their own melody on the spot. This builds confidence and helps students trust their musical instincts. Regular feedback helps students understand their strengths and continue improving.
I also support students who perform in worship settings and those preparing for musical theatre productions where expressive playing is important. My lessons encourage creative freedom, careful listening, and steady musical growth. Over time, you will develop your own improvisational style instead of copying others. Together, we will unlock your inner jazz or folk fiddler and help your musical ideas come to life.
