About Cyrem
I was born in the Philippines and grew up speaking my native tongue of Bisaya and Tagalog. Then I came to America at the age of 16 and learning English as a foreigner was challenging to say the least. Thankfully, I had many great mentors and friends that helped me learn and I also became a part-time English-speaking penpal for younger kids across the country during my years in college at UCSD! I found the penpal program through my Japanese classes as I grew interest in learning Japanese as well and the penpal program helped me connect with Japanese students who wanted to learn English and in turn would also help me learn more Japanese, 凄いですね！
I hope to not only teach English to someone like you who may share similar struggles to 16-year-old me, but also to build a relationship so you feel a sense of belonging!
