About Sophia
Hi, I’m Sophia! I’m an incoming university student from London who recently finished my A Levels. I wasn’t always a grade 9 student—in fact, I was stuck getting 6s for a long time. I became obsessed with figuring out what actually separates an average essay from a top-band response, teaching myself how to structure essays, analyse quotations naturally and write exactly what examiners are looking for. Achieving grade 9s in both GCSE English Language and English Literature showed me that the right approach really works. That’s why I love helping students build confidence, master exam technique and realise they’re capable of far more than they think.

Having recently completed my A Levels, I understand exactly what separates an average essay from a top-band response. My teaching focuses on building sophisticated essay structures, developing perceptive analysis and embedding the high-value interpretations, contextual links and critical ideas that consistently impress examiners. Rather than relying on memorised paragraphs, I teach students how to think analytically so they can explore quotations with confidence and tackle unseen poetry without struggling to identify deeper meanings. I have studied Macbeth, Animal Farm, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and the Power and Conflict poetry anthology, allowing me to provide text-specific guidance alongside transferable exam skills. Lessons are 60 minutes and combine targeted teaching, exam-style practice and detailed feedback to maximise progress.
