About Andrew
I am a qualified secondary art teacher. I have been teaching art to primary and secondary school children for twelve years, in UK and international schools in Spain and the Middle East. I have taught ESL in Spain and China for five years. I have experience supporting students with special educational needs. I am fluent in Spanish. I also work as a freelance illustrator, have illustrated several books for young people and also an edition of Don Quixote of La Mancha.

Art: I love art and I encourage students to enjoy it. I teach drawing, painting, dry coloured media, three-dimensional construction, clay modelling, printing and technical drawing. I help students hone their skills in particular areas, or find new areas of creativity. Literacy/numeracy and ESL: First of all I ascertain the student´s current level of understanding, and from that level help the student build up skills and confidence. I break lessons in chunks which address different aspects of the subject. I check the student´s learning throughout to ensure that he or she is able to use skills and demonstrate knowledge comfortably as we progress. I aim to create a comfortable atmosphere in the lesson to make the student feel at ease and secure. I encourage students not worry about making mistakes, but to attempt tasks and then reflect on their work in order to improve and keep improving. I aim to empower students to have the ability to grasp onto what they have learnt and keep on learning by themselves in their own time.
