About Maya
I am a piano tutor with 6 years of teaching experience and a BM in Sacred Music (Piano/Organ). My lessons combine academic training with practical performance in ragtime, stride, and early jazz styles. These historical genres help students develop rhythm, coordination, and expressive phrasing. I work with both school-aged learners and adults who are passionate about piano. Lessons include left-hand techniques, improvisation, and style-specific exercises. I provide clear explanations and hands-on demonstrations to make learning engaging. My teaching emphasizes both technical skill and musicality. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s goals and interests. I offer supportive feedback to encourage steady growth and confidence. Learning these styles allows students to connect with rich musical traditions. Lessons are structured, inspiring, and fun. Together, we’ll explore the history and joy of early American piano. I focus on helping students create original piano music with confidence and creativity. Lessons cover songwriting, melody creation, harmonization, and thematic development. I also guide students in making intros, outros, and connecting motifs. My approach combines structured methodology with room for exploration. I work with The Therapy Seeker and The Jazz Pianist to meet their composition goals. Students practice expanding ideas, organizing phrases, and refining harmonies. Feedback is clear, supportive, and practical. Lessons include improvisation and guided composition exercises. Each session builds both technical skills and artistic expression. Students learn to translate inspiration into complete pieces. I emphasize planning, clarity, and musical coherence. Together, we develop compositions that reflect your unique style. You’ll gain the skills to leave a lasting musical legacy.
