About Sophie
Hello I'm Sophie!
I currently work full time outside of academia but wish to share my passion for my subject to others and catalyse more curiosity. I have intentions to start a PhD in January and would love to learn new skills and share my knowledge with others.
I completed my BA English and Film Studies at University of Leeds in 2018 where I harnessed my passion for critical thinking. Some key areas I studied (but not limited to) include: Victorian Literature, Postmodern and American Literature, World Cinema, Film Music, Gender Studies, Orientalism and Film Cultures and Industry.
During my MA Film Studies at University of Manchester I took on independent projects including a study on Contemporary South Korean Cinema (specifically through the films of Bong Joon Ho) and the socio economic debates surrounding conglomerate industries effect on Liberal political views. More over my Dissertation "The Animated Punctum: Representations of Political Trauma, Indexicality and The Turn to Affect" researched the role of animation (rotoscoped, stop motion and digital) as a indexical medium to come to terms with 3 fictionalised depictions of political trauma in consequence to historical conflict.
I learnt a great deal over both degrees and have a wide range of skills to share the wonders of both English literature, Film and critical thinking with others. No question is too big or too small so please feel free to get in touch if you would like any further information or just to have a chat!

I like to keep an informal and friendly approach to teaching to take away the intimation of learning something new. My teaching style typically involves a wide range of exercises including but not limited to: writing prompts, creating key discussion points, developing responses to audiovisual materials and creating frameworks to unpick main critical arguments.
I hope to develop any students' creativity, ideas, writing quality, and critical thinking skills. I give targeted feedback that enables students to focus on the key areas they need to improve to attain their goals. If you are somebody who struggles to put their thoughts into words, I am able to help bring your ideas to life through dynamic discussion and collaborative planning.
