About Debra
Most people assume that composing is a mysterious gift, yet I find that song creation is a structural craft refined over 7 years of practice. I earned my BFA Music at York University while performing and developing my own unique voice. Writing songs should be an accessible process rather than a daunting mountain to climb.
My approach centers on breaking large tasks into manageable segments so the vision remains clear. I specialize in melody writing, crafting memorable choruses, and perfecting prosody to ensure lyrics sit perfectly against your chosen harmony.
Navigating genre conventions across pop, country, folk, and R&B is a core part of how I support your creative growth. Through years of teaching, I have observed that structure often provides the freedom needed for true expression.
Collaboration and co-writing are essential tools that I introduce to broaden your perspective. Confidence in your work emerges when you understand the mechanics behind your favorite records. I am here to guide you toward finished songs that sound like you. You possess the ideas, and I provide the roadmap to finalize them.
