About Lauren
Hi all! I am a bilingual (English and Spanish) teacher with extensive experience in language education. I received my Bachelor's degree from Furman University in Spanish, Linguistics and Teaching ESOL. I also received my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification in December 2020. During university, I tutored at an after-school program helping Spanish students with English language acquisition. I also completed a virtual 3 month internship where I taught English to Chilean high-school students using a flipped classroom model. Last year, I spent 5 months working as an English teacher in Spain in a 1st, 4th, and 6th grade classroom. While in Spain, I also spent over 10 hours teaching private lessons each week to students aged 6-40. I currently work as a guide at a Montessori school in a bilingual classroom.

In my classes, I focus on developing strong relationships with my students! I have found that the more comfortable teachers and students are together, the more effective the lesson and the better the language acquisition. Prior to all of my lessons, I provide a consultation to ask students about their interests and what aspects of language they are interested in improving the most (pronunciation, speaking, writing, etc.). Additionally, rather than using external resources (textbooks, etc.), I design my own lesson plans and activities catered to each student's interests. Finally, I am comfortable with a wide variety of tutoring styles. Whether it be conversational, play-based, or an intense grammar session, I guarantee that all my students will drastically improve their language skills in a setting that is best for them!
