About Alex Tyler
Science Made Simple – With a Tutor Who Gets You
Hi, I’m Alex Tyler Jones - a science tutor with a strong background in medical sciences, specialising in paediatric neurodevelopment, and currently completing my PGCE in Additional Learning Needs (ALN). I believe learning should feel accessible, encouraging, and - above all - worth your time.
My approach is calm, structured, and personalised. I’ve supported a wide range of learners, from GCSE students to adult returners, including those with autism, ADHD, and chronic health conditions. My lessons aim to reduce stress, build real understanding, and help you feel confident in tackling Biology and Chemistry… no matter your starting point.
Outside of tutoring, I’m a parent, a carer, and a lifelong science nerd. I love exploring how the brain works, reading speculative fiction, and getting outdoors whenever I can. I bring the same curiosity and creativity into my teaching - because science should feel human and relevant, not just a list of facts to memorise.

As a Biology and Chemistry tutor, I combine a clear, structured teaching style with an adaptable and empathetic approach.
Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to suit individual learning styles, needs, and goals—particularly supporting those with additional learning needs (ALN), such as autism, ADHD, or physical disabilities.
I focus on building strong conceptual understanding through clear explanations, visual aids, and active recall strategies. I use real-world examples and exam-style practice to help students connect content to context, boosting both knowledge and confidence.
Where needed, I break complex topics into manageable steps and use scaffolding techniques to support learning. Lessons are typically 60 minutes long and include:
*A short recap of previous content
*Clear learning objectives
*Interactive teaching using diagrams, discussions, and quick quizzes
*A review section to consolidate knowledge
I also provide optional homework or study strategies to help learners continue progressing independently.
Qualifications & Experience
I hold a degree in Medical Sciences with a specialisation in Paediatric Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry and am currently completing a PGCE in ALN (Primary). I’ve tutored science at GCSE and A-level for several years, including working with adults and children with diverse learning needs.
I tutor students aged 11 and up, including:
