About Joanna
I am a specialist Biology tutor with 6 years of experience across GCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate teaching. I support students in core and advanced areas including molecular biology, genetics, human physiology, ecology, microbiology, and biotechnology. My background combines academic study with 6 years of one-to-one teaching, so I understand both exam board requirements and how biology is applied in research and degrees.
During my 6 years of tutoring I’ve developed targeted approaches for each level. GCSE students master key definitions, practical skills, and application for grades 7 to 9. A-Level students receive support with content depth, essay technique, statistical tests, and synoptic links for AQA, OCR, and Edexcel. University students get help with experimental design, data interpretation, scientific writing, and dissertation planning.
Lessons blend concise theory with exam-style practice and critical thinking. I emphasise precise terminology, clear diagrams, and logical answer structure. We use your syllabus, past papers, and extension material to build both recall and understanding. My goal is to make you an independent scientist who can approach unfamiliar data and questions with confidence.

Think of our lessons as biology coaching, not just tutoring. We’ll work through your syllabus whether it’s GCSE required practicals, A-Level synoptic essays, or University dissertations and data analysis. My focus is teaching you how to apply knowledge to new contexts, because that’s what exams and research demand.
We solve problems together using your spec, past papers, and journal figures. I show you how examiners write questions, how to pull key data from graphs, and how to structure 9-mark and 25-mark answers for full credit. Complex topics like respiration, immunology, inheritance, and ecosystems are broken into cause, process, and outcome so you can adapt the framework to any question.
For GCSE, we target application and maths skills in biology. A-Level students learn to link topics across papers, evaluate methods, and write with scientific precision. At university, we cover experimental design, statistical analysis, and how to critique primary literature for essays and reports.
I share active recall techniques, spaced practice plans, and ways to memorise cycles without burnout. Bring your problem topics. We’ll make a plan, practise until it’s secure, and track progress against your spec. Relaxed, supportive, and always about turning content into marks and understanding you can use anywhere.
