About Duong

My name is Duong, and I am currently a biomedical engineering student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I have a strong academic background in mathematics, physics, and analytical problem solving. During high school, I was actively involved in advanced mathematics programs, including serving as President of the Math Honor Society and competing on the Math Olympiad team, where I developed strong logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.

I have received several awards in mathematics competitions, including first place in the New York Math League, qualification for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME), and Bronze Medal in the International Math League. These experiences helped me develop a deep understanding of mathematics beyond the classroom.

In addition to my academic work, I have also worked as a peer tutor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, helping students in Calculus I and Calculus II improve their understanding and confidence in mathematics. Through this experience, I learned how to explain complex ideas in simple ways and adapt my teaching style to different learning needs.

As a tutor, my goal is to create a supportive and professional learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building their confidence. I believe that with the right guidance and clear explanations, every student can improve their understanding and succeed in challenging subjects like math and science.

My approach as a tutor focuses on helping students truly understand concepts instead of simply memorizing formulas. As a biomedical engineering student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I have developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills in mathematics, statistics, physics, and engineering. During lessons, I first assess the student’s current understanding, then explain concepts step-by-step using simple language, visual examples, and real practice problems.

A typical lesson begins with reviewing key concepts, followed by guided problem solving where we work through examples together. After that, students practice similar problems while I provide feedback and strategies to improve accuracy and confidence.

What sets me apart is my patience and structured explanations. I focus on breaking difficult ideas into smaller steps so students can build confidence and improve their problem-solving skills.

My lessons are designed for middle school, high school, and early college students who need support in math, physics, or statistics, including homework help, exam preparation, and strengthening core concepts.
