About Alanna
Hi! I'm a passionate and approachable biology tutor with a strong academic background and a genuine enthusiasm for helping students succeed. Having recently gone through the exam system myself, I understand the challenges students face and how to overcome them. I use this experience to provide relatable, effective support tailored to each student’s needs. Working with children in various settings has helped me develop a patient, encouraging teaching style that puts students at ease and builds their confidence. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and ultimately mastering the subject. I have a full DBS check.

My tutoring approach is friendly, focused, and tailored to each individual student. I believe that anyone can succeed in biology with the right guidance and support, so I aim to make complex topics clear, engaging, and accessible. I combine simple explanations with active learning techniques—like guided questions and interactive problem-solving—to build confidence and deepen understanding. I also work closely with students on exam technique, helping them apply their knowledge effectively under pressure. Lessons are typically 60 minutes long and are structured to include a mix of topic review, practice questions, and time to tackle any problem areas. I adjust the pace depending on your goals, whether that's reinforcing schoolwork, preparing for an exam, or exploring topics beyond the curriculum. I will also adapt my approach to best suit your specific exam board. I achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE Biology and an A* at A Level, and I’ve been through the competitive Oxbridge application process successfully—although I now study Biosciences at Durham after having fallen in love with the university. I also have experience working with children, which has helped me develop a patient and supportive teaching style suited to a range of learners. My lessons are ideal for GCSE and A Level students of all abilities, as well as younger students looking to build a strong foundation in biology. Whether you're aiming for top grades or just trying to boost your confidence, I’m here to help you reach your goals.
