About Jess
I’m a dedicated Social Sciences teacher with a passion for making learning engaging, accessible, and impactful. Since qualifying in 2016, I’ve specialised in Sociology and Health & Social Care, with a particular interest in recall and retrieval strategies, effective use of technology, and innovative teaching approaches. I hold Apple Teacher certification, reflecting my commitment to using digital tools to enhance learning and develop skills for the modern world. I am currently Head of Department for Social Sciences, a role I’ve held for the past two years. Before this, I was Deputy Director of Learning for the subject area for two years, and prior to that, Key Stage 3 Leader for PSHE, RE, Citizenship, Child Development, and Health & Social Care. Alongside teaching, I have been an AQA A Level Sociology examiner since 2019, giving me valuable insight into what examiners look for and how to guide students towards top marks. I have also delivered CPD training to staff in other schools, sharing subject expertise and best practice.

Each tutoring session is fully tailored to your needs, whether that’s mastering difficult concepts, improving exam technique, or building confidence in Sociology and Health & Social Care. I focus on recall and retrieval strategies, so knowledge is stored long-term and can be applied under exam conditions. For every 1-hour session, I dedicate an additional hour to preparation, marking, and personalised feedback, ensuring you get the most out of our time together. Lessons often include the purposeful use of technology, drawing on my Apple Teacher skills to make learning interactive and engaging. Before we start, I offer a free 45-minute introductory session so we can identify your goals, assess current strengths, and agree on a learning plan that works for you. Whether you’re working towards GCSE, A Level, or simply want to deepen your understanding, my aim is to make sure every lesson leaves you more confident, prepared, and in control of your learning.
