About Wendy

Hi! My name is Wendy, and I am a student at a specialized high school in New York City with a strong passion for education and helping younger students succeed. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed strong skills in Mathematics, Reading, Science, and Social Studies, and I enjoy sharing that knowledge with others in a way that is both engaging and easy to understand.

Beyond academics, I have over 200 hours of volunteer experience working with children and families in my community. Through these experiences, I have learned how to be patient, encouraging, and adaptable when helping students of different ages and learning styles. I understand that every child learns differently, and I strive to create a positive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing their confidence.

As someone who successfully prepared for competitive high school admissions in New York City, I can also provide valuable guidance for students preparing for the SHSAT. I enjoy helping students develop effective study habits, strengthen their academic foundations, and build confidence in their abilities.

My goal is not only to help students improve their grades and test scores but also to inspire a genuine love of learning. I am committed to making each lesson productive, supportive, and tailored to the individual needs of every student.

As a student at a specialized high school in New York City, I understand both the academic challenges students face and the skills needed to succeed. My goal as a tutor is to create a supportive, engaging, and personalized learning environment where students build confidence while strengthening their academic abilities.

My teaching approach focuses on patience, encouragement, and active learning. Rather than simply giving answers, I guide students through problems step-by-step, helping them develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills they can apply independently. I adapt my teaching methods to each student's learning style, whether they learn best through visual examples, hands-on practice, discussion, or repetition.

A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous material to reinforce understanding and identify any areas that need extra support. We then work on new concepts through guided instruction, interactive examples, and practice questions. Throughout the lesson, I encourage students to ask questions and explain their thinking. I conclude each session with a summary of key concepts and personalized practice recommendations to help students continue improving outside of tutoring sessions.

What sets me apart is my recent experience successfully navigating the same academic pathways that many of my students are preparing for. As a specialized high school student, I can provide firsthand insight into effective study habits, test-taking strategies, time management skills, and the SHSAT preparation process. I strive to make learning approachable and enjoyable while helping students develop the confidence needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

My lessons are designed for elementary and middle school students seeking support in Mathematics, Reading, Science, and Social Studies. I also offer SHSAT preparation for New York City students who are interested in attending specialized high schools. Whether a student needs help strengthening foundational skills, improving grades, preparing for exams, or building confidence in the classroom, I am committed to helping them reach their academic goals.
