About Aleksandra
Over the past couple of years at the University of Cambridge, I have specialised in English, undertaking a PhD and an MPhil. Earlier, I attended Utrecht University, completing a BA Hons in comparative European literatures, linguistics and languages, including modules in English, German and Dutch, which also involved research internships at the Universities of Sheffield and Heidelberg. Beyond literary and linguistic studies, I have regularly also crossed into art, history, politics, philosophy and related disciplines, including as part of research, editorial and other roles at the Cambridge University Press, Edinburgh University Press, Amsterdam University Press and elsewhere.
At Cambridge, I have for the past over four years also provided instruction and dissertation supervision to a number of first- through to final-year undergraduate students (predominantly in English Studies, but also extending into Comparative Studies), as well as assessed and moderated applicant entrance examinations and interviews (including the institution's proprietary CELAT and CMLAT). Outside of the Cambridge supervision system, I have at the same time been offering individually tailored private tuition, as well as assistance with critical, analytical, research, reading and writing skills (through a number of platforms, including this one but most extensively through FirstTutors.co.uk). Beyond this, I have also been offering assistance with proofreading, editing, translation, interpretation, and other language skills (most extensively through ProZ.com).

For those interested in advanced university-level instruction or assistance (including at MA level) of the kind I have also offered at Cambridge, my specialism is in English language, literature and related social, cultural, political and philosophical developments of the period 1830–Present. For those interested in less specialised university-level instruction (including at BA level) or in earlier stages of education (including IB, EB, A-Levels, GCSEs, and comparable stages of education), I also offer assistance with additional periods of English; additional and comparative literatures, linguistics, and languages; as well as within a number of adjacent disciplines which have prominently featured in either my education, employment, or both, including political and social studies, philosophy, history, and art history.
I am especially capable of imparting and improving students’ critical, analytical, research, reading and writing skills, all of which can be transferred across subjects and be of aid with extended pieces of coursework, assignments and examinations alike. I assist regularly both outside of and at Cambridge with a wide variety of academic, critical and creative pieces of work (including numerous manuscripts, articles and briefs, the occasional PhD dissertation, MA dissertations and modules, BA dissertations and modules, A-Level EPQs, IB EEs, NEAs, and more).
As I am aware of students' different personal and educational backgrounds and learning profiles, I ultimately aim to structure my lessons around each individual. If a student is therefore able to provide previous of current syllabi, express particular interests, or else particular difficulties (whether due to a lack of experience, confidence, or a background that has traditionally been marginalised by schools or universities), this is always useful for me to know. From there, I aim to structure my lessons so that they are both very active on the part of the student (drawing much from the Cambridge supervision system I am used to working within) and allow for frequent, detailed feedback both in-session and outside of it (including in the form of assignments completed in-between sessions and submitted to me for detailed annotation and discussion in-session, from whence it can be incorporated into future work).
I am available for appointments online and in-person in Cambridge (depending on location), and can work very flexible hours around my schedule (from early mornings until late evenings on a number of days throughout the weekdays and weekends). I am also open to inquiries from those who require a more unconventional approach (whether last-minute appointments, late-night availabilities, or other unconventional circumstances often arising from abrupt and imminent deadlines).

I've been tutored by Aleksandra through First Tutors over the last two years of my undergraduate degree, and could not recommend her any more. She is absolutely brilliant – she has provided invaluable aid in developing my reading, analysis, synthesis, drafting, writing and editing skills. She is the kind of tutor who goes above and beyond in terms of both the time and resources she sets aside for you – part of the reason I've progressed so quickly and clearly is that she provided brilliant take-home resources and annotations to my work completed in-between sessions: very, very detailed and thorough, like having 2–3 additional hours of content explained to me in detail in the margins of each paper or presentation I've had to complete. Having had an unconventional path to university, and not having been sure it was quite for someone of my background despite the scholarship I got to pursue it, Aleksandra has also given me a massive boost of confidence – now also evident in my transcript!
I have no doubt that Aleksandra is an excellent tutor, having known her to have provided high-level undegraduate paper and dissertation supervision at the University of Cambridge, including to a number of students with Student Support Documents (i.e. documents outlining diagnosed learning disabilities, illnesses, and other conditions which require the supervisor to be particularly adaptable and skilled at accommodating a range of students of diverse backgrounds, inclinations and difficulties). A number of Aleksandra's supervisees have gone on to be awarded marks of Class I or Class I with Distinction (i.e. the highest possible marks, a 'First' or a 'Starred First'). As a supervisor, Aleksandra is known to be exceptionally knowledgeable, insightful, thorough and diligent, with an open, understanding and accommodating manner, and as such more than suited to tutoring at all levels of university, school and casual education.
