About Em
I'm an English graduate from Trinity College, Cambridge University with ten years of tutoring experience in English, 11+ preparation and some related subjects on request. While at university, I won awards for composition and Shakespearean essay-writing; since then, I've had several pieces of poetry and critical writing published, and worked for a company specialising in critical thinking pedagogy. On a personal basis, I love video games and cross-stitch, and I'm fostering a library to rival Alexandria when my cat isn't trying to knock the bookshelves over!

I'm comfortable teaching all ages and levels for English & related subjects, and age 8 or over to begin 11+ preparation. I'm experienced with SEN students, particularly autism spectrum disorders. Lessons will usually be one hour as standard, depending on individual requirements. I teach holistically, with an appreciation for applied skills; learning facts is a lot easier when a student can appreciate the application. No matter the age, students benefit from more than 'jumping through hoops' when preparing for exams or learning new information - plus, it fends off boredom! Tutoring one-to-one relies on the relationship between tutor and student; I like to ensure lessons are a two-way dialogue, where students are comfortable asking questions and challenging ideas, with a view of furthering critical faculties in a safe environment - a keystone of success in English literature and all related subjects. Feel free to drop a message to discuss your requirements, and I'll be happy to help!
