About Zak

I'm Zak, a London-based writer who has always had a passion for language, storytelling, and helping others find their own voice. Tutoring is something I do alongside my creative work because I genuinely love it — there's nothing quite like seeing a student's confidence grow and watching things start to click. I bring warmth, patience, and a lot of enthusiasm to every session.

About the lesson

My name is Zak, and I've been tutoring for over nine years. I studied Education and English at Cambridge University, followed by a Master's in Management at the same institution, and I've since worked with hundreds of students across all stages of their education, from primary right through to secondary level.

My Approach

I take a student-centred approach in everything I do, tailoring every lesson to a student's specific needs, strengths, and goals. I believe it's hugely important to inspire a love of learning, so I always aim to make lessons fun and creative as well as rigorous. Having studied education formally, I'm very conscious of different learning styles and how best to scaffold a student's progress so they can reach their full potential.

I've worked with students with a range of learning difficulties, and I always try to break down the frustration that can come with writing and reading by finding approaches that click for each individual student. My aim is to build a strong, trusting relationship with everyone I work with — because it's from that foundation that real confidence, passion, and progress can grow.

What I Teach

- English — comprehension, essay writing, creative writing, close reading, and verbal communication
- 11+ and 13+ entrance exam preparation — including verbal reasoning, interview technique, and school-specific preparation
- I have helped students gain places at leading London independent schools including Latymer Upper, St Paul's, and City of London School

Who I Work With

My lessons are suitable for students aged roughly 7–16, whether they need targeted exam preparation, support with school English, help with a specific area of difficulty, or simply want to develop a stronger love of reading and writing. I am equally comfortable working with high-achieving students aiming for competitive school places and those who need a more patient, nurturing approach.

Experience

I have tutored privately since 2018 and have worked with agencies including Leo Tuition (Hong Kong) and Ivy Education. I currently offer both in-person lessons in London and online sessions.

Lesson Length

Lessons are typically one hour, though I am happy to discuss shorter or longer sessions depending on the student's age and needs.
