About Stephanie
Whether your client is new or returning, the final part of the art therapy session will involve the same process. Use this opportunity to summarise any key points from the session and invite your client to offer their own reflections on any insights they may have gained from the sessions.
Flexibility is key in developing trust in the process. Art is everywhere and I love being a new lens for clients to see another way of building their self-knowledge and confidence.
Many times the lesson is achieved in a day (2 -3 hours), I'll always make it a priority to schedule a follow up plan for anyone that would benefit from and requests a series of sessions.
I'll keep a record based on our initial plan, chosen art activity, the process and discussion that unfolds, and provide my assessment relative to the set tasks achieved. Each client will be given a post session recommendation for any additional session ideas and how to store your artwork!

I. Connect with the audience / student and what concepts we're breaking through. Playdough is not for everyone, but a lot of people have found it useful in communicating their emotions and ideas.
II. Art Therapists should be mindful that working with clients requires an attitude of responding to the client’s needs in the moment rather than based on prescriptive techniques. Therapeutic intuition comes from mindfulness and honest practice. I earned a B.S. degree in Therapeutic Recreation in 1996 from Florida International University in Miami, FL. My second career as a paralegal has driven my passion for helping people discover solutions where they saw little hope.
III. Lesson Plans are as Unique as the People They're Created to Help. We start subjectively on all initial plans - You the Pupil/Class have identifiable, quantifiable characteristics we will acknowledge together and list for our therapy focus.
Objectively, we're mostly all dealing with some psycho-physio-spiritual block. You will undoubtedly recognize these hot topics:
A. Anxiety Disorders
B. Depressive Disorders
C. Eating Disorders
D. Personality Disorders
E. Addiction
F. Trauma & Stress
**I've worked with all ages and backgrounds. Group homes for runaways, day schools for students with learning and behavioral issues, juvenile detention, assisted-living facilities, physical rehabilitation centers and veteran's centers helped me learn that we all have so much good energy to share. There is only one You!
IV. There is a method to unleashing the artness inside and discovering what you choose to share is Profound.
First - We're focused on "problems" and set some measurable goals. We can have fun with art education and the art therapy process. Art supplies can be quite pricey, so we will take that very seriously. At the same time, if a budding Monet wants my help, I'll still address the issue of perfectionism and support them towards finishing the task we've set for the day.
Whether your first or ninetieth art activity, our focus is not about interpreting the meaning of any images or outcomes but instead the experience of the activity. Creating art is a process of storytelling about a life experience in the past or rebuilding the memory network in a protective space.
Warning: People are critical of their own efforts and will make negative comments about their artwork, we really can't help ourselves. This self-criticism will allow each of us to better view the portrait we painted of ourselves and understand that powerful motivator/de-motivator, self-esteem.
