About Kim
I started lessons at the age of 6 years old and continued to take lessons for another 12 years after that. I completed my AMEB Certificate of Performance in 2019 and I did a music ATAR jazz streamline with a 90% average in performance grading. I also do contemporary pieces in my spare time, so I’m familiar with Western art, jazz and contemporary genres; And I’m currently a grade 4 in theory with AMEB. Originally, I started off teaching piano during high school privately, where I tutored 3 students for a duration of 3 years. After that I began teaching at Sound Centre School of Music in Morley, where I’ve currently have been teaching for the past year. Throughout my teaching experience, I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of students, from beginners as young as 4 years old to adult learners over the ages of 60. On weekends, my schedule typically accommodates up to 15 students per day, and during busy weeks, I have taught approximately up to 35 students within the week.

I believe that both the child’s wishes and the parent’s wishes are equally as important. In order to maintain the child’s interest in music, it is crucial that their lesson experiences are positive and their desires are acknowledged and respected. I also believe that parents play an important role in fostering a child’s musical journey, serving as their primary support system. I currently employ two strategies in my lessons to motivate students, but I am eager to explore additional methods. One approach involves rewarding students with stickers for successfully practicing and completing songs well. For older students, I take the time to understand their musical preferences, such as favorite genres or specific songs, and tailor my lesson plans accordingly.
