About Katie
Hi! I'm Katie, an educator with more than 15 years of teaching experience and mom of four.
I began teaching children online through VIPKid, where I worked one-on-one with students learning English. That experience taught me how to keep online lessons engaging, use visuals and conversation effectively, and build strong relationships with students even through a computer screen.
Since then, I have gained extensive experience teaching in traditional classrooms. I have taught elementary students as well as middle school English Language Arts and Geography. Working with students with a wide range of abilities has strengthened my ability to differentiate instruction and explain the same concept in multiple ways until it clicks.
I am also beginning a new chapter homeschooling my son, which has deepened my appreciation for individualized education. I understand that children do not all learn at the same pace or in the same way. Sometimes a student doesn't need more work, they need the material presented differently.
My goal is for students to leave our sessions thinking:
**“Oh! I get it now.”**
I believe strong teaching should build both skills and confidence. I am patient, encouraging, energetic, and genuinely enjoy helping children discover what they are capable of doing.
Whether your child needs ongoing weekly tutoring, homeschool support, help catching up, or simply a confidence boost in reading and writing, I would love to work with your family.

Is your child reading below grade level? Does your child understand what they read but struggle to explain their thinking? Do writing assignments turn into frustration? Does your child need extra support with grammar, reading comprehension, essays, or schoolwork?
I can help!
I am an experienced elementary and middle school classroom teacher with a background teaching English Language Arts, reading, writing, and social studies. I also have previous experience teaching multilingual children online through VIPKid.
My lessons are personalized to each student’s needs. I work to figure out where the difficulty is happening, teach the skill in a clear and manageable way, and then give students opportunities to practice until they feel confident using it independently.
I can help students with:
* Reading comprehension
* Written responses to reading
* Paragraph and essay writing
* Grammar and sentence structure
* Vocabulary
* Main idea and supporting details
* Making inferences
* Text evidence
* Narrative, informational, and argumentative writing
* Homework and school assignments
* Study and organization skills
* Homeschool English/ELA support
* Building confidence as a reader and writer
*Phonics instruction and decoding strategies
I especially enjoy working with students who say, “I don't know what to write,” struggle to organize their ideas, or need concepts explained differently than they were taught in class.
My lessons are encouraging, interactive, and structured without feeling intimidating. Mistakes are part of learning, and I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and trying again.
Our first meeting will help me get to know your child as both a student and a person.
We will discuss current strengths, areas of difficulty, school or homeschool goals, and what your child would like help with. I may complete a few informal reading or writing activities so I can identify an appropriate starting point.
Parents are welcome to share school assignments, writing samples, test results, teacher feedback, IEP/504 goals, or other information that may help me understand their child's needs.
After our first meeting, I will recommend the areas I believe we should focus on and how future tutoring sessions can be structured.
