About Michael
I am an experienced English educator with more than ten years of teaching experience in both public and charter schools. Throughout my career, I have worked with students from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including honors students, English language learners, and students with IEPs. My goal has always been to help students build confidence while developing the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills they need to succeed.
As a classroom teacher, I have designed rigorous ELA instruction, prepared students for the New York State ELA Regents, and supported many struggling learners in reaching their academic goals. I believe that strong relationships, clear expectations, and individualized support are essential to student success.
In addition to traditional English instruction, I bring experience in creative writing and screenwriting, helping students connect academic skills to their own ideas and interests. This combination of high expectations and engaging instruction allows me to meet students where they are while challenging them to grow.
Students and families can expect professionalism, reliability, and a supportive learning environment where questions are encouraged and progress is celebrated. I am committed to helping each student develop both the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in English and beyond.

My approach as a tutor is built around the idea that every student can become a stronger reader, writer, and thinker when they feel supported and challenged at the same time. I work to create lessons that are engaging, practical, and tailored to each student's individual strengths, interests, and learning needs.
I specialize in English Language Arts, including reading comprehension, literary analysis, essay writing, creative writing, and Regents preparation. I have extensive experience working with students with IEPs, multilingual learners, and students who may struggle with confidence in English classes. My teaching style emphasizes patience, clear expectations, and differentiated instruction so that every student can experience success.
A typical lesson begins with a short review of previous skills before introducing a focused objective, such as analyzing a text, improving paragraph structure, or preparing for an exam. Students practice skills through guided instruction, discussion, and independent work, and each lesson ends with feedback and strategies for continued growth.
What sets me apart is my ability to combine rigorous English instruction with creativity and relationship-building. In addition to my classroom experience, I teach screenwriting and creative writing, helping students connect academic skills to their own interests and experiences. I believe students learn best when they see their own voices and ideas reflected in their work.
My lessons are designed for middle school, high school, and college-preparatory students, including those preparing for the ELA Regents, working to improve writing skills, or seeking additional support in English courses. I also have significant experience supporting students with special education needs and helping struggling learners build confidence and achieve academic success.
