About Holly

I am an English/Drama/Writing teacher in New Hampshire! I earned my BA in English from UNH and my MA in education from Framingham State University. I taught for ten years in New Hampshire and for the last two decades overseas. While teaching abroad, I was also an administrator in schools located in Turkey, Thailand, Mexico, Cambodia, and Israel. I now work at a private school in New Hampshire where I have taught English, Drama and tech and serve as the Assistant Head of School for Academics. My teaching experience includes English, drama, public speaking, and gifted and talented education. With each experience, I have valued various opportunities to become involved in student life from directing plays to coaching sports and organizing community service events. As an administrator, these experiences shaped my sense of commitment to an educational experience that challenges students to take risks and to find their niche. In the classroom and beyond, students are at the heart of what I do and it’s what keeps me in education—their enthusiasm, their talents and, most of all, their unlimited potential. I have tutored in various settings over the years. I have worked with individual and small groups on writing workshops where we develop different writing genres. Along with learning to develop fiction and nonfiction writing pieces, students also learn how to apply conventions and how to improve their editing skills. I've also worked with students who struggle with reading comprehension. Through vocabulary activities and discussion, students have found their reading abilities improve. Beyond this, I have experience working with ELL and ESL students. I can also tutor students in test preparation, public speaking, drama and history.

About the lesson

My lessons are student centered and begin with an assessment of strengths and areas for improvement. I generally work online and use a variety of tools to engage students and to reinforce learning. We focus on developing strong reading and writing skills, and I love combining both to ensure understanding of text and to develop analytical writing. Beyond this, I will also work with students who need help in preparing for presentations and public speaking as I also come from a drama background.
