About Roxanne
I’m a certified teacher with more than 20 years of experience teaching in public, private, outreach, online, international, and one-to-one learning environments. My background includes English Language Arts, literature, writing, learning strategies, ESL, drama, and academic support.
I have spent much of my career working with students who do not always thrive in traditional learning environments, including neurodivergent learners, reluctant readers and writers, students experiencing academic overwhelm, and learners who need a more individualized path to success.
I believe students learn best when they feel respected, understood, and safe enough to take risks. I bring patience, humor, creativity, clear communication, and high expectations into my teaching while adapting to the learner in front of me.
I especially enjoy helping students discover that struggle does not mean incapability. Whether a student is working on an essay, building confidence in English, exploring literature from around the world, or learning how to approach school in a way that actually works for them, my goal is to help them become more capable, confident, and independent learners.

My lessons are relationship-based, student-centered, and highly individualized. I adapt instruction to each student’s strengths, interests, learning needs, and goals rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
I teach English, writing, reading, and literature through discussion, explicit instruction, modeling, scaffolding, real-world connections, and meaningful texts. I especially enjoy using world literature, contemporary texts, drama, poetry, and student interests to make learning relevant and engaging.
A typical lesson begins by identifying what the student understands, where they are stuck, and what they need to accomplish. From there, we break the task or skill into manageable steps, work through it together, and gradually build independence. Students leave with clearer understanding, practical strategies, and a stronger sense of how they learn.
I have more than 20 years of teaching experience and have worked extensively with teenagers, neurodivergent learners, reluctant readers and writers, ESL learners, students experiencing academic overwhelm, and students whose abilities are not always reflected in their school performance. My background includes classroom teaching, online education, learning support, outreach education, private tutoring, and English language instruction.
My lessons are best suited to students in Grades 7–12, including Alberta and Ontario (Canada) high school English courses, as well as adult students and ESL learners who want to strengthen their writing, reading, speaking, literary analysis, academic English, or overall confidence with the language.
