About CHRISTIANE

I am a self-motivated ESOL teacher (English for Speakers of Other Languages). I have more than 20 years of experience teaching and preparing learners for tests and examinations and supervising teachers.
My thorough theoretical knowledge and vast practical experience gained in colleges and private language schools in Brazil and Australia allow me to build rapport with students and create a cooperative environment during lessons.
I am an expert in tutoring, interviewing new students, and identifying learners' needs, monitoring their progress, and giving them feedback.
I am used to observing, evaluating lessons, getting feedback from students, and aligning my practice and students' goals whenever necessary.
I have experience as a Cambridge examiner for Cambridge main suite exams and more than 3 years’ experience successfully preparing students for IELTS in Australia, where I live.

Based on experience and studying I believe that there is not one single best method for everyone in all contexts, and that it is not always possible – or appropriate – to apply the same methodology to all learners, who have different objectives, environments and learning needs. However, I tend to favour a more communicative approach. I emphasize the ability to communicate the message in terms of its meaning, instead of concentrating exclusively on grammatical perfection or phonetics. For me how much the learners develop their communicative abilities and competencies guide the develop of my work with them .
I use real material that are relevant and interesting for my students. Authentic materials can be described as materials that have been created for native speakers and are used as teaching tools in the ESL classroom. This could include books, directions and maps, newspaper articles or recipes. It could also include videos, music or podcasts.
I prepare comprehension activities to help students focus on important parts of the material, determine and summarize important ideas and supportive details. It also guides students to make connections between and among important ideas in the text, integrate new ideas with existing background knowledge and ask themselves questions about the text.
The activities also help students notice chunks of language, idiomatic expressions, vocabulary and pronunciation.
During the lessons, we talk about the topic that was explored and try to use the language studied in our conversation.
I give support and feedback throughout the lesson providing explanation, examples and encouraging students to refine and improve their speaking
