About Maria S

I hold a Master’s degree in Teaching Italian Language and Culture to Foreigners and a certification in online tutoring.
Having lived for several years in English-speaking countries, I fully understand the challenges of learning and communicating in a foreign language.
I am the author of a book on Blended Language Learning, aimed at language teachers, in which I explore theories and practices for integrating classroom and online teaching. This background allows me to offer a truly flexible, research-based approach to your Italian learning journey.
My lessons follow the CEFR framework (A1–C2) and are tailored to your needs, goals, and interests. Whether you wish to travel, study, or obtain a language certification, I will guide you with structure, empathy, and consistency.
I firmly believe that effective communication is the key to mastering a language. From your very first lesson, you will start speaking Italian naturally and confidently.
Having studied English, German, and Japanese myself, I know exactly what it feels like to bridge the gap between theory and real conversation.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is communicative. Lessons are fully interactive, designed to help you express yourself and understand others while discovering the cultural aspects that make Italian unique.
I combine structured progression with authentic materials — videos, ads, and articles — chosen according to your level and interests.
Textbooks are provided when needed, but I always prioritise real-life language use.
During each lesson, you will:
• practise new vocabulary and grammar in context,
• engage in authentic communicative tasks,
• improve all four skills: reception, production, interaction, and mediation.
Technology plays a key role in my lessons: together, we build a personalised online learning environment that keeps you motivated and makes your progress visible. You don’t need any technical skills for the lessons; I will guide you through them.
I teach all levels (A1–C2), from absolute beginners to advanced speakers preparing for certification or professional communication.
My goal is simple: help you speak Italian with confidence, accuracy, and cultural awareness.

• Chiedere un’informazione

• Chiedere quanto costa qualcosa

• Chiedere l’ora

• Prenotare un hotel

• Parlare di azioni quotidiane

• Invitare qualcuno a fare qualcosa

The class lasts 60 minutes and it is a one-to-one lesson. For group lessons, please contact me for a quote.

The difference between buying a single lesson and a pack is that if you buy the pack, you can schedule the same day and time for the entire duration of the pack (if you wish, you can have your Italian class always on the same days at the same time). Days and times of single lessons can be proposed each time you buy them and day and time are based on availability.

There’s no need for you to purchase extra books, as I’ll be supplying all the essential materials required for your studies.
Lessons must be booked/accepted at least the day before to secure the slot. Lessons proposed on the same day may not be accepted.

The instructor will wait online for up to 15 minutes from the scheduled start time. If the student has not joined by then, the session will end, and the lesson will be counted as taken.

Cancellation policy: Superprof.ie authorises the student to cancel a lesson at least 24 hours in advance. In this case, it is fully refunded. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the start time, this will count as a cancellation. You will normally have to pay for the instructor’s time and the class will be deducted from your pack. So, in this case, there will be no refund.

I am an Italian native speaker with a strong passion for my language e culture.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
That’s a hard question to answer! I could mention so many of them. However, I like to say Federico Fellini, Sofia Loren or Umberto Eco, Oriana Fallaci. I can also mention Botticelli, Caravaggio, Giotto… :-)
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?
”Per non sapere né leggere né scrivere”.
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
First of all, it is my language. it is a cultural language, full of nuances and charm.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
In Italy, there are lots of different accents and dialects. Studying only in books does not help to learn a foreign language. It is useful to start from communication integrating the sociolinguistic aspects of the language. I would suggest using an inductive approach to understanding the language structure starting from communication/interaction.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
I studied English, German and Japanese. Studying a foreign language can be hard and frustrating. The right approach can definitily change your learning. That’s why I decided to study how to teach the Italian language and culture to foreign students.
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Travelling to the country of your target language is what can assure you to learn the language avoiding to use it as “book style” and help you to be more natural. Learning from a native teacher gives you something precious.
What makes you a Superprof in language?
I deeply know my language. I have loads of passion for the Italian language and culture and I am emphatic and devoted to my students. I like the learning and I like them to understand how to use the language to communicate.
