About Bethany
I have been in the education world for several years now, and I absolutely love it. The relationships I am able to build with students are my favorite part. I love working with students from start to finish to see the growth they have made. I currently teach middle school math at a public school in Mississippi. Math is my favorite! I am willing to work as hard as I need to, to ensure students walk away from my lesson with more knowledge than they started with. I will adapt and teach in whatever way the student learns best! I can't wait to get started!

I currently teach 6th-grade math at Oak Grove Elementary. I graduated in 2022 with my Elementary Education degree. Amongst the 6th graders that I teach, I have one class that is above grade level. That has taught me how to differentiate assignments to push students in unique ways. They need challenging, application-type problems so they can still be pushed to grow. I also have a class that is over 50% that is 1-2 grade levels below where they are supposed to be. That class has given me an opportunity to have experience with remediation. I have learned how to modify teaching lessons and slides to accommodate individual student's needs. That will set me apart as a tutor. I have experience working with students in all ability groups.
A typical lesson plan includes some type of game or activity to start the lesson. Sometimes that is a review of the previous lesson activating background knowledge that will be useful for the lesson on that day. Once that is complete, I then enter a time of direct instruction. During this time, I will go over any necessary vocabulary and teach the lesson. I provide example problems for the students. Then we will move to guided instruction. I will present the student with problems and we will work together to get the answer. Throughout the lesson, I am slowly transitioning more of the responsibility to the students. I will end the lesson with a type of formative assessment to make sure the students mastered the skill. That may be an exit slip or just a couple of questions for them to work. Through all of this, my teaching method is laid back with as much application to the real world as possible. For example, I did a lesson recently on Integers. I used a football game (loss and gain of yards) as a way to teach the students. I believe that the more the students can apply a lesson to their everyday lives, the more effective the lesson is.
