  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

When my mother wasn't reading to me, she was reading to herself. Her passion for the written word inspired a love of reading and writing in me. I began writing for a children's publication called "Cricket Magazine" when I was in early elementary school. After I graduated college, an enthusiastic reader and prolific writer, I wanted to share the positive experience of reading that I had been fortunate enough to enjoy and create a sense of wonderment in children everywhere.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

With my extensive experience in SAT tutoring and Language Arts instruction, I am well prepared to discuss the conventions of English for hours. For fear of boring my students to death, I often vary my conversation to include the wonders of math and the fascinating details of world history.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

All of my teachers, from pre-school teachers to college professors, have served as role models to me. I borrow from them constantly and equally to engage my students and make them feel as valuable as my teachers did for me.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Probably, the most important quality of a good teacher is patience. Once one has mastered this virtue, kindness, humor, passion, and unpretentiousness surely follow!
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I remember writing an essay on the philosophy of Adam Smith and "The Wealth of Nations" as a prerequisite for my bachelor's degree. I don't know what I wrote about and still don't completely understand economics. I am glad I had a high GPA and perfect SAT scores!
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

If there is one thing I have learned as a tutor, it is "the more that you know, the more you find out that you don't know" - especially in math. For every formula that I master, there is a more complex one that I can't wrap my mind around!
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

From the time I was in elementary school, I have always been the girl kids turn to when they have difficulty with their homework. Teaching came as naturally to me as breathing.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

I am a Superprof because I make a difference in childrens' lives.
