About Russell
Learning a second language is not easy. I understand this because I started learning French at the age of 27 when I moved to Quebec for the first time. I am now fluent in French. This year, I began learning Spanish to remind myself how difficult language learning is and to help me better connect with my Spanish speaking students.
I have a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toronto. I have taken specialized courses in both English and French as a second language. In addition, I am presently completing a 120 hour TEFL certificate through the University of Toronto to help me gain access to potential international online teaching opportunities. This allows me to renew my knowledge and skills and helps me apply new techniques to my ESL teaching today.
My experience teaching adult ESL, although not recent, was 4 years (part-time) of private and small group instruction for a language school in Granby, Québec.
This year, I entered my 21st year of teaching high school ESL in the Quebec City area. During this time, I have taught all levels including 2 years of ESL for special education (adaptation scolaire).

As an ESL teacher, my role is to facilitate your language learning and help guide you toward your language goals. After assessing both your needs and level, we can work together to produce content that will challenge you and create a more meaningful and motivating interaction.
I believe that what we do in class should be based on building on your strengths in order to help you gain confidence and improve your overall fluency.
Of course, I will be there to provide feedback and help you develop learning strategies that you can use every day. Languages are not learned in 60 minutes a week!
Our 30 minute free lesson will give us the time to get to know one another better and allow me to explain how I might structure our lessons together.
