About Michael
I have over ten years of experience helping students of all levels of abilities prepare for standardized tests. As a high school English teacher, I've prepared students for the SAT, PSAT, and the ACT. I will use a variety of genres and techniques to prepare students, working on close reading strategies, test taking, and comprehension.

My name is Michael Niederman. I'm an English, writing and test prep teacher and tutor with a master's degree in writing from Columbia University and my English teaching degree from CCNY. I've taught high school English and History here in NYC, and for the past 10 years I've been working as a full time private tutor. I've got extensive experience helping students prepare for their college admissions exams like the SAT. I've taught the verbal portion of the SAT for both private individual clients and in small groups and classes. Over my career as a private tutor, my students have seen an almost 150 point improvement to their SAT score, helping them to get into their first choice schools. I'd like to help you with the English portion of your upcoming digital SAT.
I have developed a series of strategies designed to help students cut through confusing sections and get their best score on the exam. I'll teach you how to swiftly fly through the Reading Comprehension questions, helping you to determine not just main idea, but also analyze how authors employ language to convey subtleties of theme, tone and style. I can also help you to improve your ability to comprehend not just the passages, but the questions themselves, which can help you to better eliminate answers, and to instead find the correct ones with speed and accuracy.
I'll also help to improve your vocabulary, understanding of grammar, and understanding of the usage of evidence, getting you a near-perfect score on the writing & grammar exam questions. Most importantly, I help my clients to develop a positive mindset towards these tests, so that they are not intimidated by a long and difficult exam, and are able to meet its challenges with aplomb. Working with me, your skills and confidence will greatly improve, and you'll be quite pleased with your score.
