About Maurice
I learned how to play the piano so that I could play in church. I started my journey about 20 years ago and I mostly taught myself how to play with some private lessons along the way. I made a vow to God that if I learned how to play the piano successfully, I would make sure that I helped as many others learn how to play as I could. Over the years I have taught piano to kids in daycares starting at 3 years old, to afterschool music lessons for K-5th graders, to private lessons for middle school through high school students and even group piano to 75-year-olds in a retirement home. I have been blessed to teach over 200 students and many of them are still pursuing music or playing in their local churches. My expertise is the beginner to the intermediate students because I love helping students stay motivated in the beginning stages of learning to play the piano.

My teaching method is I first find out what the student wants to do at the end of the lessons or I let the students know what they will be able to do at the end of the course if it is class setting. Next, I tailor the lessons to what the student wants to accomplish but no matter what I teach music theory along with the method of choice. My expertise is church music such as Gospel, Christian and choir songs, however, I can teach all styles due to my diverse background in classical, pop, R&B, and country. Primarily, I teach students how to read music, play by ear, and how to use lead sheets and chord charts. I have an easy going personality but I am strict when it comes to practice and completing assignments on time.

Details
Cancellation policy: Monthly charges are flat fees and are not prorated due to a missed lesson. If I miss a lesson due to an emergency or for reasons out of my control, I will work out a makeup date as soon as possible. Additionally, each student is allowed 1 makeup per calendar month and the makeup will be scheduled as soon as possible. If an entire class needs to be rescheduled, the student must makeup on the scheduled makeup date or there will be no further makeup offered.
