About Mike
Over the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching piano, music theory, and composition to over 100 students. My favorite composer is Chopin, though I also admire the works of Rachmaninoff, Bach, Debussy, Haydn, and Tchaikovsky. Music has been a lifelong passion for me. I attended the renowned Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts—famously known as Fame—where I played jazz piano, as well as cello in a symphonic orchestra. Lately I've been enjoying learning the works of Joe Hisaishi featured in Studio Ghibli films, as well as jazz tunes from a fake book.

In each lesson, we’ll start with warm-ups and a quick check on posture and technique before focusing on the pieces you want to learn. I’ll assess where you are, break things down in a way that makes sense, and give you the tools to practice effectively on your own. I’ve been playing piano for over 33 years and have a deep background in music theory, along with experience in jazz, classical, and rock. I have been teaching both private and group lessons for the last 7 years, including through the UFT Welfare Fund. Whether you're a beginner or building on what you know, I’ll help you reach your musical goals in a way that’s engaging, clear, and fun. Let’s get started!
