About Emily
I have taught at Belmont Abbey College as a first-year writing professor for over thirteen years and have tutored English and History for seventeen years. I teach students in Rhetoric and Literature survey courses that include basic essay composition, rhetorical and literary analysis, grammar, and World Literature. I received my B.A. in English from Belmont Abbey College, graduating cum laude in 2007 and earned my M.A. at UNC-Charlotte in 2012. Aside from teaching, I have experience in technical writing, copywriting, content management, and marketing.

As a college professor with more than fifteen years of experience tutoring both remedial and advanced students in writing, grammar, and reading comprehension, I understand that patience, clarity, and practical strategies are essential for student success. I tailor every lesson to the individual, adjusting the pace and approach so each student feels supported, confident, and capable.
Strong writing skills and solid reading comprehension are crucial for a successful academic career. I help high school students master these foundations so they enter their first year of college prepared for the demands of college‑level writing—whether they’re working in MLA, Chicago, APA, or another format. With this preparation, their freshman year becomes far less stressful and far more rewarding.

She has been the most reliable English and grammar/rhetoric prof I ever had at Belmont Abbey. Would still have her review things in law school if it was allowed because her methodology and passion is unmatched. She went over my senior seminar/thesis for my program in undergraduate, which led from it being a low graded assignment to a B (with an extremely harsh grader). Now she is someone I would invite once I pass my bar exam to the swearing in system because she makes you feel safe, and feel like you just need some help rather than being lost or feeling dumb.
She is an amazing professor! She guided me on the right path for me to be an excellent writer :)
Mrs. Williams sat with me for hours on end helping me with papers and understanding readings. She pushes you to do your best work. Even outside of tutoring, she was only an email away and found time outside of tutoring hours to ensure I got the help I needed.
Emily is a talented instructor with over a dozen years of experience teaching writing skills and literature in the classroom as well as tutoring outside of it. She is warm, engaging, and always ready to help students do and be their best. They appreciate her good humor and her creativity in helping them to learn and to grow.
I know Emily as the dean, and as someone involved in Student Success through all her time as a tutor. I've seen her work with students, and the appreciation they've shown for her help. She not only helps them with whatever assigment is at hand, but also shows them more broadly how to become a better writer.
