About QueNasia

Hi, I’m Ms. McCrary! I’m an English Language Arts teacher who loves helping students become stronger readers and writers. I’ve taught students in grades 1st through 12th, so I know how to make learning fun and engaging for different ages. My lessons usually include videos, discussions, and hands-on activities where we practice skills together before you try them on your own. Outside of teaching, I enjoy learning new things (like Japanese!), reading exciting stories, and spending time with my family. I also love exploring different foods and cultures. My goal is to make sure you feel confident in your reading and writing, and that you know learning can be enjoyable, not stressful. When you’re in my lessons, you can expect encouragement, clear steps, and lots of chances to ask questions and share your ideas. I can’t wait to learn with you!

I believe students learn best when lessons are engaging, interactive, and tailored to their level. My teaching combines direct instruction with activities that allow students to explore and apply skills in meaningful ways. I use: • Multisensory learning: videos, visuals, reading passages, and writing exercises to engage different types of learners. • Discussion-based learning: encouraging students to talk through ideas, make connections, and share their thinking. • Step-by-step guidance: modeling skills first, then gradually releasing responsibility to the student. • Positive reinforcement: building confidence in reading and writing by celebrating progress, not just perfection. A Typical Lesson Plan 1. Objectives (5 mins): Clearly state the learning goal, such as “Today we will learn how to identify the main idea in a passage.” 2. Video + Discussion (10 mins): Use a short video or read-aloud to introduce the concept, followed by a guided discussion to check understanding. 3. Guided Practice (15–20 mins): Work through examples together (highlighting a passage, outlining an essay, or brainstorming ideas for writing). 4. Independent Practice (15–20 mins): Student practices the skill on their own with a short reading or writing task. I provide support if needed. 5. Wrap-Up (5 mins): Reflect on what was learned and set a small goal for next time. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor • Age-appropriate engagement: I make lessons fun and relatable by incorporating stories, games, and media that match the student’s age. • Customized support: I adapt lessons for struggling readers/writers, advanced learners, and everyone in between. • Confidence building: My focus is not only on grades but also on helping students see themselves as capable readers and writers. • Clear structure: My lessons always follow a predictable routine so students know what to expect, which helps them feel secure and ready to learn. Who the Lessons Are For • Ages 5–13 (Elementary to early Middle School). • Students who want to improve in: • Reading comprehension (main idea, summarizing, inference, vocabulary in context). • Writing (sentence structure, grammar, paragraphs, creative writing, essays). • English Language Arts skills (spelling, organization, responding to prompts). • Learners who need extra support catching up, practice to stay on track, or enrichment to move ahead.
