About Ryan

Ryan is a classically trained pianist, percussionist, and vocalist who studied recording at Millikin University. Now he owns and operates Bird Garden Studios in St. Charles IL. As a producer he's worked with dozens of bands and artists to deliver them through the recording process and help them cut the type of record that they've always dreamed of.

His recording journey started as a teenage songwriter who couldn't afford studio time to track his band. When you can't afford to hire someone, you learn how to do it yourself. This philosophy gained Ryan many music related skill sets. Now he is a jack of all trades and has even mastered a few.

Taking recording lessons from Ryan, you can expect...
- A balance of academic and hands on learning
- To gain a comprehensive knowledge of audio engineering
- Lessons personally tailored to your skill level and experience
- Finished recordings that you love!

Making a good recording can be difficult. Ryan spent years struggling to get the results he wanted out of the recording process before receiving instruction. His first recording projects used a free program called audacity and a rock band video game usb microphone. Having felt the struggle first hand and worked all the way through it to being a professional , he is passionate about educating musicians and producers of all ages and experience levels on the finer points of tracking, mixing, mastering, and music production.

Q&A
What age range do you teach?
- I have experience teaching all ages. That said, much of producing and audio engineering is a bit academic and deals with some relatively complicated concepts. Because of that, I typically find the most success teaching young adults and up.

What software do you teach?
- I'm a Logic Pro native but I have experience with Pro Tools, Ableton, Reaper, Audacity, Krystal, Reason, Ozone, and Garage Band. That said, much of what I teach will apply regardless of the digital audio workstation you use.

What type of producer are you?
- The term producer these days could mean all sorts of things from being a loop jockey to being a singer songwriter making phone recordings. I'm a pretty versatile producer I work with and record everything from live full band recordings, building entire arrangements for solo artists, recording rappers and adlibs, making beats, polishing film soundtracks, to even recording podcasts.
