About Lilia
I recently graduated with my BA in Media and communication studies this past winter (2022). Following my graduation, I found myself missing my academics, but needing to start my career. After much thought, I decided the best place to begin would be helping others in the subjects I miss so dearly.
While it is my first time tutoring professionally, I am qualified and experienced with higher academics. I graduated with a 3.84 GPA and a 3.9 or above in all of my writing courses. I have taken advanced creative writing, writing workshops, as well as communications, and research-based courses.

Lessons first start with a student's concerns and struggles. Following this, I like to help students set goals by addressing their NEEDS, and their WANTS. This can be about a specific piece of writing, or their skills as a writer in general. I classify NEEDS as areas of improvement, that are critical to success in their course. Needs are often the notes their teacher will leave in side columns during grading. After we establish this, I have the student establish WANTS. This is an area in their writing that is not critical to passing a course, but that they would like to improve, or set themselves apart from their peers. I find combining a student's critical needs, and what they find enthusing about their work improves self confidence and overall drive to learn.
Once the groundworks are established, I usually assist students in writing an outline, wether they have a work ready or not. I am experienced in a variety of outlines spanning from creative works, to complex research papers. The outline will help a student see in a much smaller format if their work meets the guidelines required.
During the outline process, and every stage of writing, I work with students on transitions, thesis statements, and thesis tiebacks. These are often what students struggle with the most, but they are the most critical to a well-written piece. I find practice makes perfect, so alongside teaching the basics, they will also be writing them.
Lastly, I focus heavily on the English language. Having graduated with my BA in Media and Communication studies, I have spent the past four years of my education learning just how important our words are to our success as individuals. I like to focus on expanding vocabulary and expanding literary confidence. A large and robust vocabulary will aid a student in using fewer words to communicate more concise and complex ideas. While it is completely optional, I recommend students accept my once-a-month personal book recommendation. There is no better way to learn to write than to read it, and it also aids in this development of vocabulary.
Note: I also provide proof reading/editing suggestion services at my tutor rate of $20 an hour.
